To launch our school’s brand new Instagram page we have shared photos from our much anticipated Market Day held last Friday (22nd June) in the BER building on our middle school campus.
As always, it was a bright and colourful affair that brought our whole school community together. It was great to see parents, caregivers, and family friends attend. We were also very pleased to see some of our ex-students who saw the flyer on our school’s Facebook account.
Market Day is a day for the senses! The delicious aroma of the sausage sizzle wafted through the school grounds as students, staff, and families enjoyed the music, the thrill of the go-kart rides, and the busy ambience of the market. On sale was a diverse range of hand-made products carefully crafted by students. There was everything from refillable citronella oil burners and eco-friendly wax wraps through to lemon butter, stress balls, and lip balms. For the green thumbs there were a wide variety of lush plants and for the black thumbs there were hardy succulents impossible to kill (or so they say!). There was sensory slime and feathered pens, infused oils and recycled candles made from left-over candle wax.
There was definitely an increased focus on sustainability and you could see evidence of conscious decisions to reduce waste wherever possible – one stall even provided biodegradable plastic bags whereas another stall promoted zero-waste by selling products with no packaging and plastic-wrap alternatives.
Market Day is a great opportunity for our students to learn a variety of important life skills and be exposed to environments like this in a safe, caring, and controlled manner. As you walked around the stalls you saw friendly student faces greeting customers, lively conversation, and plenty of money being exchanged for homemade goods.
We encourage you to check out our new Instagram page @canningtoncommunityesc to see more photos of Market Day.
