VET

Vocational Education and Training (VET) at Cannington Community ESC is individually designed to cater to student’s needs, interests and strengths. VET programs help prepare students for life after school through the development of skills, knowledge and attitudes that are required to work effectively in a chosen work placement or industry area.

Through our Person Centered Planning tool students and their families plan for their future life beyond school. This plan is used to guide students toward the most appropriate pathway to take to achieve a successful transition and achieve their career aspirations. This can include School Based Traineeships/Apprenticeships or Nationally Recognised Certificate Courses including Certificate I in Construction or Certificate I in Visual Arts. Certificate courses run through our school are delivered and assessed by teachers who have completed their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and have recent industry experience and knowledge.

All students who achieve VET units of competency in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) as part of their school program have these competencies recorded on their WASSA and/or WACE.

Elective Courses

Each Friday at the senior campus students engage in an Elective Course.
Students made their preference late Term 4, 2017 and have started their courses as of Week 1 this term.
Over the next few weeks we will be giving you an insight into the each of the courses.
First up is Certificate 1 in Visual Arts.

Certificate 1 in Visual Arts

This is a nationally recognized qualification. Projects may include: -creating and designing wood pieces like foot stools, tables, ornaments and models. Students use manual arts equipment and computer technology to design art works including laser printing.

Students are awarded points for Units of Competency achieved on their WASSA statement. This course is delivered on the Sevenoaks Senior College Campus with a qualified teacher Merv Alcock. Students love this course because they are taught how to design and create their own products, use computer programs and gain experience in using a variety of hand tools, machinery and equipment.

Some students’ work is entered into the Visual Arts Exhibition at the end of the year at the Canning Show.
